Nourishing and growing in faith is a lifelong process. Because of this we have many opportunities to grow in faith and in our Christian relationships within the community of faith. Below is a listing of the various opportunities to nourish your faith at St. Stephen.
Sunday School – Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings and provides learning opportunities for children 3 years old through high school. The new Spark curriculum from Augsburg Fortress is currently being used and the lessons coincide with the readings used in Sunday morning worship.
Vacation Bible School – VBS is held in the evening one week during the summer and is for children age 3 year old through 6th grade. The evening begins with a meal followed by singing and rotating through: games, craft, Bible story, and skit. It is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and grow in faith.
Confirmation – Confirmation class is for youth in the 7th and 8th grades with the youth affirming their Baptism in the spring of their 8th grade year. The year is a combination of Learning Events, Fellowship Events, and Servant Events. A winter retreat at Michi-Lu-Ca is also a part of the process as is a week-long confirmation camp at Stony Lake in the summer.
Youth Group - The high school age youth are involved in various activities including: Mission Trips, the Michigan Gathering Bass Lake Festival, and the ELCA National Youth Gathering which is held every three years.
Adult Sunday Class – The adult class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45 in the library. This class covers several different topics each year which can range from the study of a specific book of the Bible; discussion of a book on some aspect of the Christian faith; to a study of a particular topic. Since nourishing and growing in faith is a lifelong process, adult learning opportunities are especially important.
Wholly Wednesdays – Wholly Wednesdays is an intergenerational ministry for the “whole” congregation….. adults, senior citizens, families, children, which is held of the first and third Wednesdays of the month during the school year. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with games for children and fellowship for adults. Dinner is served at 6:00. At 6:30, children have a supervised homework/craft time and at 7:00 hand chimes practice, while the adults meet in the library for a learning event/study time. The evening is over by 7:30.
Thursday Morning Bible Study – This Bible study group meets on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Often the group discusses the readings for the upcoming Sunday but it also does studies of specific books of the Bible or other topics.
